Men Variations. After Laocoön and His Sons. Collage series. Stable Diffusion, control net, Virile Fusion 3 Beta 1.
Collage is one of my favorite art mediums. Simple in execution, though hard to master. It’s a dialog of what an artist sees, and a visual response to what is seen.
What I’ve always tried to do with AI is to find ways to utilize the technology in a way that’s not possible or at least very hard to do with traditional mediums.
This series of work won’t be possible with text prompts alone at all. It was possible because of control nets, an example of the many advanced features seen only in Stable Diffusion.
I’m posting 8 compositions today as a preview to give a glimpse of what I’ve been working on, but I’ve rendered 2000 images in the past two days to assemble enough materials to create a video eventually.
It’s titled men variations, as I chose subject matters that are often depicted in gay art throughout history as well as my works: Greek mythology, Roman gladiators, sailors, football players, rugby players, construction works, Tarzan / King of the jungle, etc.
Unlike most works that I’ve published previously, this set of works did not go through any post-processing — that is, I didn’t take them into Lightroom to tweak colors. Neither did I do any inpainting. Please let me know what you think!
This is a large series that I’m working on. It‘s a preview of things to come.
Stable Diffusion, control net, Virile Fusion 3 Beta 1. Detailed Specs at the end of the post.
The Laocoon statue depicts a dramatic scene from Greek mythology. It shows Laocoon, a Trojan priest, and his two sons being attacked by sea serpents. The sculpture captures the intense struggle and anguish on their faces, creating a powerful and emotional portrayal.
